Marketing that Works

Here’s how I used to think marketing worked…

You market. Then, people buy. (Or they don’t.)

I was wrong. Here’s how marketing works:

You market. If people actually saw or heard you…

…and they were they were the right people

..and you held their attention long enough

…and your message was clear

…and you offered something compelling

…and you evoked emotion

..and you educated or entertained

…and you communicated at the right time

…and you made it easy to remember

…and you made it easy to take action

Then, they might…

…trust you a little more

…pay a little closer attention next time

…tell someone they know about you

…follow you on twitter

…read a blog post

…google you

…look at your site

…sign up for a trial

…ask you questions

And then, they might…

…become a customer.

The secret about marketing that works is that it’s a lot of work.
